Meet Natasha, the oral hygienist behind Floss Cruise

Teaching little patients about flossing, one school at a time

Natasha is an independent oral hygienist in Polokwane, Limpopo. With a background in psychology and a practice of her own, she built Floss Cruise to take oral health education out of the dental chair and into schools.

How it began

a practice sets sail

Natasha van Reede van Oudtshoorn is an independent oral hygienist in Polokwane, Limpopo Province. She studied psychology at the University of Stellenbosch, then completed a diploma in oral hygiene at the University of Pretoria, and has practised oral hygiene since 2004.

In 2019 she registered as an independent oral hygienist and opened Floss Oral Hygiene Practice with her colleague Chané Alberts.

When the practice started visiting schools, the puppet show became The Floss Cruise: the practice sailing out to a new location. The name also plays on "flossing", the practice's word for teaching children about oral health in general.

Floss Cruise has since grown into a brand of its own. The name stays the same even when a different practice takes the show to a school in another town.
